Old Greek colony, Calabria also profited from the contributions of the eras Roman, then Byzantine, Norman, Angevine and Spanish. The architecture there is much diversified. The nature is surprisingly rich.
On top of its 800 km of beaches bordered by the Thyrenienne Sea and the Ionian Sea, with turquoise or emerald colours, Calabria is an area of raised mountains, enchanter’s lakes, covered hills of olive-trees and vineyards, littoral plains favourable for the market gardening.
Calabria is also a country of traditions where the folklore preserves a strong print, particularly in its popular religious festivals. As much of Italian areas, it has its specific kitchen, made of all the contributions due to the successive invaders, such as Arabic who brought lemons, artichokes and aubergines...
It is also an area of fishing (tuna in May and June, sardines and anchovy in summer, swordfish in September). All these products are transformed into a delicious kitchen, which accompany with happiness the Calabrian wines, powerful and harmonious.
Another interest of Calabria is its craft industry (sculpture in the Aspromonte, ceramics in Seminara, Locri... tapestry in San Marino and Cerzeto.)
But what characterizes the most Calabria is its generosity of its welcome, and particularly in the structures such as farm houses.
