Nested between France and Switzerland, the Valle d’Aosta is bordered in the south by the Mount Blanc and the Alpine range of Gran Paradiso and the Rosa Mounts. It is the paradise of the skiers, and this until the end of spring, eventually in summer on the snows of the Pink Plate in Breuil Cervinia. The Valle d’Aosta counts 23 ski resorts, 878 km of downhill, 300 km of tracks for cross country skiing. It is also a very beautiful area for the excursions in mountain.

Its natural landscapes are often splendid (imposing summits, scintillating glaciers, waterfalls, streams, pastures, forests...), particularly in the national park of Gran Paradiso; the colours change with the liking of the seasons; the Alpine flora is of a great interest. The Valle d’Aosta is scattered with Romance, Gothic and Baroques churches, castles (more than one hundred), small authentic boroughs which has preserved their craft industry and their traditional festivals. The kitchen of the Valle d’Aosta is simple and robust: soup of bread, melted with cheese, polenta with smoked bacon, delicious pork-butcheries (coppa, salami, pancetta, mocetta...), jugged hares, excellent cheeses (fontina, solignon, toma), pears with red wine.

This area produces also its wine, of an infinite variety (22 type of vines) of which certain vineyards are among highest of Europe (in Morgex, to 1200 meters) and also the most famous alcohol: the génépi. Agritourisms and self catering cottage are a pleasant lodging to discover the area.
